Under revised plans, the Government will:
Raise the Boiler Upgrade Grant by 50% to £7,500 to help households who want to replace their boilers with a low-carbon alternative like a heat pump.
On Thursday 21 September 2023, the Government announced that from Monday 23 October 2023, installers will be able to apply for the newly increased grant amounts:
- Air source heat pumps: £7,500
- Ground source heat pumps: £7,500
- Biomass boilers: £5,000
The scheme aims to encourage more households to replace older gas and oil-fired boilers with energy-efficient electric heat pumps, with an overview on the government website explaining: “Through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you could get a grant to cover part of the cost of replacing fossil fuel heating systems with a heat pump.
You’re eligible if you:
- Own the property you’re applying for (including if it’s a business, a second home, or a property you rent out to tenants)
- Have installed (or plan to install) your new heating system on or after 1 April 2022
- Be replacing fossil fuel heating systems (such as oil, gas or electric)
